If you are going to put an advert out you generally copy check it don’t you? In fact I often ask other members of my team to double check status updates I write for one of the big facebook pages we run (well it does have about 3m fans!) to make sure I haven’t messed up on the spelling, punctuation or grammar!
So if you are going to put up a big advert right in front of the entrance to one of your major offices then you might want to get the spelling right? You might double check the copy maybe even triple check!
Let us focus upon the first word for a second, “Rap”, the word “Rap” means (according to Princeton) any one of these things:
None really fit the sentence do they? Well that is probably because BT meant to say “Wrap” didn’t they, meaning “envelop: enclose or enfold completely with or as if with a covering” (ibid above).
So this should have read “Wrap up warm this winter”. That is quite embarrassing, granted: no one is perfect and I am sure you can even find a few grammatical errors in this blog if you look closely, but I am writing this at 12:30 at night and I am not a huge brand! If I was writing this for a client I would be damn sure it was checked…
If you want to see for yourself then be sure to take a look at the BT offices outside of St Pauls Tube Station.
